Here’s How to Grow Your Medical Practice with TikTok

Share on: facebook / twitter / linkedin / email

By now, you’ve probably heard of the app TikTok, or you’ve at least seen videos created on the appwhether you realized it or not. TikTok is the newest social media platform to captivate the world, namely Gen X. From dancing videos to heartfelt stories, people worldwide are using this platform to entertain and inform their audiences. TikTok is proving to be a powerful tool for brands to reach customers and highlight their services in new ways, especially for doctors.

At Goldman Marketing Group, we keep up-to-date on the latest social media platforms and trends, ensuring our clients can reach their audiences in the most effective ways possible. We manage social media accounts for ten medical practices across the US, creating original content, interacting with followers, and finding new ways for them to shine online.

What is TikTok?

TikTok is a social media platform where users can create, share, watch, and interact with short-form videos. Video formats pop up and disappear just as quickly, allowing brands to jump on trends and spin them for their unique messages. Dance choreography paired with specific songs is always trendy on TikTok, and medical staff often jump on board (linked example, not our client), showing a more personal side to the medical field.

There are currently one billion active users on TikTok, which is the same number of users on Instagram, and this number is growing. Many wondered if this platform would last, and it’s now clear TikTok is here to stay.

One of our clients, Carolina Facial Plastics, knows how to jump on TikTok trends:

How TikTok Creates Success for Brands

Medical practices using TikTok are seeing great success in reaching current and future clients with informative and entertaining content. TikTok enables brands to show a more personal side of their team, helping their audience feel comfortable with them, even before they walk into their office. Other benefits of TikTok include:

  • Content is quick to consume
  • The feed is curated based on other videos interacted with, so your branded content will go to users already interested in it.
  • Going viral is easier on TikTok than on other social media because of the constant flow of new trends that people want to see.
  • Short video format creates an easy tool to teach and learn about new topics, sparking interest to check out more details on a brand’s website.

When dermatologists and plastic surgeons started talking about skincare products available at any major drugstore, those products sold out across the country, and other discussed products suddenly started selling rapidly online. TikTok videos can follow established trends or create brand new ones, and these trends have real-world implications. If your medical practice wants to book more appointments for a specific treatment, find a current trend that could work to highlight the treatment, record your take on it, and share. You’ll see interaction grow.

Creating Unique Content for Your Practice

The first step in reaching an audience on TikTok is creating an account, of course! Once you’re on the app, explore a little and follow accounts in your same field that are succeeding to reach a big audience. Take note of what they’re doing, and think of ways to mimic their success with your unique style. Next, you’ll want to discover current trends, like the choreography and music combinations that are popular or the story-telling formats that are popping up. Jump on these trends and make them work for your brand and audience. Then, be consistent. If you post one day, then go silent for a week, your interactions will plummet, and you’ll have to work to get noticed again. Post regularly so your audience never forgets the insights you have to offer them.

Consistency is critical, but variety will remind your audience that they should continue to follow you for new information. If you only share about one treatment or only create one type of video, the content will feel stale and out-of-date instead of exciting and insightful. Your videos don’t need fancy editing or original music; just use the tools TikTok offers, and you can be trendy. Some ideas for videos that will ensure variety are:

  • Show how to use products that you sell.
  • Explain the benefits of treatment while performing it
  • Focus on one condition and options for treating it
  • React to another TikTok video and answer questions from it
